Story

1954 & 2001 Brother

Early in the morning, during cold freezing weather, my brother and I, would go to look his rabbit boxes. With ground ice so thick, and our toes numb in our shoes, there was not a rabbit to be found. I, remember the sound of ice crunching with each step we took, our hands and noses red, and we shivered and shook. When going back to the house, I walked right behind him, stepping in his footprints, to keep ice out of my shoes. I was tired and cold, but being with my brother, was the thing I wanted to do. Before we could get in the house,it would start to sleet, and we rushed to the wood stove to warm our feet. Then we had to run down the road, to meet the school bus. We had to holler, so it wouldn't go pass us. Getting home from school in the afternoon, we would all sit down to eat supper. Before we could eat, we folded our hands and bowed our heads. We had beans, milk, and cornbread. My brother, and I, would clear the table and do the dishes. I would laugh at him, because instead of him using a towel to dry his hands, he would use his britches. I, couldn't have enjoyed my days as much with any other. I'll always remember those wonderful days I spent, with just my big brother and me.

PS. well, my dearest brother, we are grown up now, and we don't get to see each other much, with us having a family and grandchildren now. You have a job, and I am a housewife, as some would say. We live several miles from each other, but our loving thoughts and our hearts will always be togeather. When I pass on to the great beyond, I will be taking all of my precious memories of you with me.
