Hello Friends! Since I posted my last update..there have been more BIG changes in my life. Besides being a recovering alcoholic, (I celebrated 19 years sober and clean in March!) and having a mental illness, fibromyalgia, and having my knees out of alignment, now I have been diagnosed with DIABETES!
That means I have to test my blood sugar every day and change my diet. I am still going to the gym and exercising every other day, so that was one thing I needed to continue doing. Well, I eliminated all sugar and white flour products from my diet. It was hard because I loved EVERYTHING that had sugar in it. But...I want to live at least another 20 years or so. Guess what? I lost ten more pounds, and my blood sugar has been normal for two weeks now. No insulin shots! No diabetic pills! I did it with diet...so far.
It seems that my lifestyle gets healthier and healthier because I have been forced into it. I was forced to exercise because of the car accident, and my knees being out of alignment (read my first story and update). Now I am forced to diet and eat healthy because of having diabetes. It seems that only way I will have that much self discipline is when it is absolutely necessary that I change my way of doing things.
I have always hated CHANGE!!! I kinda like to sit on the fence when I am fairly comfortable, and not go anywhere or make many changes. However...when my health goes downhill and I am in pain, I get a little scared and suddenly I am motivated to make those needed changes right away. Thank GOD I did. I feel really great today! And I feel GRATEFUL I have lived this long, in spite of doing everything wrong to myself over the years. If I had known I would have lived to be this old (62) I would have taken better care of myself when I was younger! Jeannie Phillips
