Paul, you should not feel negative about yourself. You are what you are and nothing else that anyone else says matters and that includes your new employer. As long as you can do the job to the standards expected of you – and hopefully more to prove them wrong – then they can't say anything.

I hope there are others who write in with similar words of encouragement. The long and the short of it is ... believe in yourself. Those who don't are a waste of space. Although I don't know you, you seem like a decent guy, and that's all that matters. Good luck and go show them that you really are the man for the job.
