I have been fascinated with this website. I am 54 years old and only found out 2 years ago that I have been disabled with MS since I was a teenager. It is a long, sad story about why I went undiagnosed for so long, so I'll spare you the details.

Anyway, I am now on permanent disability from PERS, and I can finally spend my time doing what I want. I would like to become involved in activism, but first I have to decide how I really feel about all this. I am more sure of what I don't like than what I do like. Reading all these essays is helping me decide exactly what it is we should be doing something about.

So far, learning that I have a disability and have had it for thirty years has been an ego trip for me. If I had realized how tremendously handicapped I was, I probably would have lived my life in a totally different way. Nobody ever told me I couldn't do things so I just did them. I thought I was mediocre -- nothing was further from the truth. I am still in awe of the revelation!
