Am I missing something? I just wandered into Jim Hasse's web page and was treated to an assault on people that seek out commonalties. Carolyn Tyjewski chooses to assert the value of her difference by demeaning the efforts of others to identify common ground.

As I read her piece I applaud her anger; there is far too little expression of authentic emotions, but I take issue with her conclusions.

In trying to sort out the threads of her tirade, I was confused by the references to the writings of Wade and Lorde as the "same shit different day." The powerful words of Wade are hardly the same old shit. They are a uniquely compelling call to unity based upon recognition of a common bond.

Ms. Tyjewski cites the hypocrisy of much of everyday life and from that draws a conclusion that all of it is shit. Much of it no doubt is, but as she is compelled to recognize in her final paragraph, not all is such. Writers and thinkers occasionally bring us to insights that otherwise would have eluded us. One such insight is that in the experience of disability lies a brother and sisterhood which transcends differences and in recognition of this lies unity and power.
