Story

My son was injured in an MVA on Sept. 16, 2003. He was life-flighted to a very good trauma center. He recieved excellant care. His condition was so critical that we did not know whether or not he would survive. His broken neck was fixed. His ICP's were controlled as well as they could be. After six weeks in ICU he was moved to the Acute Trauma Care Unit. He seemed to be pretty stable. He was focusing on things that we showed him. His doctor recommended a shunt, to relieve the pressure. We agreed. Three days after the shunt operation we noticed that he was hard to wake. They did a CAT scan and determined that his ICP's were too high. He was shown to have major bleeding in the ventricals. His doctor likened it to a stroke. They took him back to ICU and once again stabilized his pressures. He was moved back to the TRACU and finally deemed stable enough to be released on January 15. He is now responsive to sound. He moves quite a bit, but it seems kind of random. He has developed drop-foot, in his left foot. The Home he is in seems to be one of the better ones for care in TBI's. We are in the wait and see mode, which has to be one of the most difficult things that humans have to endure.
