My name is Samone Scanlon was born in Thailand, Ubon (11/63). I was adopted by an American family from the Air Force. My dad was station on the base in 1970. I was raised in the Ave Maria Catholic Orphanage at the age of 3-1/2 months as well I contacted Polio. Six years later I was adopted.
Having Polio for me is very hard to get around. I live in a studio apartment by myself. I have a car that I can get around with. I work for the Federal Government, USDA-NRCS as a Secretary for the Administration Department.
I think being handicapped is the hardest. Because I had total of 20 surgies and you wouldn't know where to start. Also I have a imchemical balance of the brain where I have to take medication for the rest of my life. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to function in a normal life.
I wear a new technology long left leg brace. It suppose to be the lightest weight out of all them. The other ones weren't so good to wear. I worn a all metal brace and I have worn all plastic brace.
I had a very bad accident of February 2002. Apparently they say I had twiced my left leg in at my apartment. Realizing that I have no idea I fractured my Tibula. I was in a long cast for 5 months and a short cast 1 month. Then I went into physical therapy. My doctor thought it might have to do with my old brace I was wearing because somehow my brace cracked right at the angle (big loud boom) and I just feel to the ground as if I was praying on my knees.
