I am sharing this story because I think we all can use all the humour we can find, and this one is priceless -- as well as being very typical of the reactions of the non-disabled world to the sight of one of us!

My car was rear-ended on The Danforth on a rainy day. The taxi behind me couldn't stop when I did, and he slid into the back of my car. I wasn't hurt and picked up my cane to go look at the back of the car -- checking for damage.

The taxi driver saw me standing there, got an expression of total horror on his face, and said, "Oh my God, lady, please tell me you were already like that before I hit you!" I reassured him and went on my way, laughing for the rest of the day.

I hope this story gives you a laugh, too. God knows, we need it!
