I'm 42 years old with moderate cerebral palsy, fibromyalgia-myofaciitis, and cp-related osteoarthrits.

For the past eight years I have tried various self employment schemes. None of them worked for various reasons. But I have not given up. In fact, my resolve to get off SSI has become stronger since I'm now in supported living. My ultimate goal is getting back to school and getting my master's in counseling psychology.

But since I have financial needs right now, I am about to embark on a journey to get a part time job, be it within the realm of private employment or supported employment. It will probably be easier now for me to get a job than it was in the mid seventies; I was a client of DVR then, and not once in three years did my rehab counselor ever get me even one interview.

I do see changes taking place, however, and I am going to pursue the American dream. After all, I have 30 years ahead of me, and I don't intend to rot away in front of a television set. And I know that if I don't at least try my very best, I'll feel I let myself down, for I am a woman with many abilities, many dreams, and a lot of god-given talent.
