Story
Oh, yes, I've had people tell me how brave I am on the Latimer echo as well. It was probably in the vein of "how brave I was to undergo all that surgery and not ask dear old Dad to kill me."
Uh-huh. As if I had a choice in the matter. It's either go through hell or wind up in a hospital bed somewhere curled up like a pretzel with my lungs crushed by my own spine. Life or death. Which am I going to choose? Duh! Of course, I'm going to opt for the surgery. Of course, I'm going to opt to live. Death is not a choice. It is going to happen to us all sooner or later. Speaking as someone who has lost several friends to medical complications, I am determined not to follow them in the near future, even though suffering from clinical depression has made that a tempting possibility.
As for the issue of friends, I am scared stiff to be around ANYONE, disabled or not. I think I'll go off and be a nun somewhere. Probably the only place I won't get asked these stupid questions is a convent where I take a vow of silence. I am already on social assistance, so taking the vow of poverty is no problem. The vow of chastity? Piece of cake, since I have a semi-permanent catheter in and want no one touching me in that area any way.
Yes, being a nun sounds very appealing to me at the moment. God has a use for me, I am sure. Virtually no one else does.
