Story

I even felt that my wife was aligning my sons with her as they forced me out of the family. I finally couldn't deal with it anymore, so I left to start a new life on my own as an independent disabled person at age 46. It was a dumb thing to do, but I had to protect my ego, and, at the same time, I told myself what a hero I was for leaving my beautiful family so that they might have a chance of finding an able-bodied guy to take my place.

This all started in rehab where the OTs kept telling my wife that I was so badly damaged that I would never be able to do anything. It was particularly important in their view that I never drive a car or handle credit cards or money.

I passed the driving test for brain damaged/disabled people a year later. It was then I could leave home. I think it was the therapists' lack of professional ability to rehab seriously damaged people that contributed a lot to my family situation.

Today, my x-wife and I are working hard on reconciliation. I have certainly proven myself and shown that I should be included again in my family. John
