I was tricked into a drug re-hab while I was in college (1996). The nurse didn't tell me where I was going but once she had me in the unit, she claimed she put me there because I was "stinking drunk". I was completely sober. I tried to tell them why I was there (suicidal, issues over dating, sexual abuse). They told me I was lying. They tried to tell me I was having black outs when I tried to describe some instances. I tried to describe a horrible dating experience where a guy kicked me in the face for refusing to give oral sex. They told me he only took advantage of me. I guess they thought I was crazy for thinking different. I was given paxil, thiothixene, depakote, and valium, a sedative similar to rohypnol, and muscle relaxants when I began having horrible side effects (muscle spasms, difficulty walking, involuntary twitching, jerking of arms).

Am I a patient who sounds similar to yours? When I was released they told me I needed to seek counseling with an addiction counselor. they tried to claim I must have been dropping acid to tell them stories about sexual abuse.

I ignored their advice, completely. I am now seeking help through a Counseling service that helps children and adult survivors of physical emotional and sexual abuse. This service has been wonderful. I began writing about my experiences, and instead of opening pandora's box to cause me problems, I feel wonderful, I feel like I am connecting to myself, and I understand though my behavior may seem crazy to some, it's a normal response to living in a crazy messed up world.
