I am less trusting, too, as my middle age approaches over the hill yonder. At 37, I am more wary of the able-bodied world than I was in my 20's.

I am a creative writer who was born with spastic Cerebral Palsy, very broke. I bailed out 3 years ago from the social services sector, which I just published an article about in the Pennsylvania Coalition for Citizens with Disabilities conference chapbook for the October Power For Living event which takes place in Harrisburg every two years. Financially, at least, that was a mistake for me to attend, from my creditors' viewpoint anyway.

As a writer and as an individual born into crip culture, I am increasingly concerned with accommodation as compromise -- of accepting, for instance, the terrible methodology and operation of special services in public transportation in order to try to hold down employment.

I cannot speak for other regional transportation systems, but Philadelphia's paratransit division doesn't work, and it doesn't change either -- and I have suffered the consequences of this since my university days. I can protest, I can get arrested, I can write about it, but what I would prefer is an alternative, and I cannot very well create one single-handedly.
