Debbie, my name is Eddie and I am quadriplegic. I read your story which warmed my heart. You are so very in-tune with your situation that I feel I must reply.
Spontaneity is out, you write, but also to know that this is the hand that was dealt you rather than attribute autism to some Divine reason or a punishment of some kind and deal with it openly reflects your logic, reason, and ability to face and deal with your situation.
I believe that God does not dole out punishment or challenge us in ways to make us stronger for any reason. But, I do believe that God hurts when we hurt and that God can offer us strength and encouragement when we feel inundated in our unique situations.
There is no blame to be placed anywhere -- just strength to continue to live and to love.
Your writings should be published -- I think it would make for a wonderful book that would serve as a catharsis for you and a learning tool for others. You are much admired and I wish your family the best.
Big hugs to you, Debbie.
Eddie
