1. I wish that famous people who acquire disabilities would use their influence to broadcast the message of disability pride, instead of disability woe.
2. I wish that employers would think of the Americans with Disabilities Act as a door to rightful inclusion, insead of a noose with which they will be hanged.
3. I wish that nondisabled people could know what it means to live on this side of society's wall.
4. I wish that do-gooders would get a life.
5. I wish that people with disabilities could go in any store and feel welcomed. I also wish that the aisles could be wide enough, instead of almost wide enough.
6. I wish that nondisabled people would not think of handicapped parking spaces as their own special "five minute only" spot. I also wish that people with disabilities would quit parking halfway into the access area, so that other people with disabilities who need that space for wheelchair lifts would have it.
7. I wish that every curb cut would actually be usable, instead of some being like the carnival ride from hell.
8. I wish that all people with disabilities as severe as Stephen Hawking's could have the accessible technology he has, and that they would be extended the same regard as a person that he is given.
9. I wish that all people with disabilities who use the services of attendants could have that provision without fear of being robbed or otherwise abused.
10. I wish for children with disabilities to grow up in welcoming communities, with the assistive devices they need to get the best and most rewarding education. I wish for them to have friends -- real friends who play with them after school, and not just because some teacher made them play together during recess.
11. I wish for their parents to be able to sit down at IEP meetings with assurance of the full support and cooperation of teachers and academic administrators.
12. I wish that Eddie Murphy, whom I like, would quit doing fake sign language in his movies.
13. I wish that the psychiatric community would realize that there is a normal and predicted response to being excommunicated from society, and that any response other than overwhelming grief would be abnormal.
14. I wish that Tiny Tim would quit saying "God bless us, everyone" during the Christmas season, making everyone with disability pride want to toss their cookies (personal note: rewrite "A Christmas Carol").
15. I wish the public could see what happens to people with disabilities when they are imprisioned in institutions. I also wish that the public felt as much outrage for the abuses inflicted on people with disabilities, as they do the abuses inflicted on animals, and people without disabilities.
16. I wish that all people could see able body supremacy for what it is. I also wish that able body supremacists would wear uniforms and give themselves a name, making their movement recognizable to those who do not see its existence.
17. I wish to forgive all those who have hurt me, and who have made me feel that it was a crime to become disabled.
