Among the things I did to fight for justice for myself from SSA persecution was a letter of complaint to the SSA Regional Commissioner. This past week I received a response from Regional VIII's Richard J. Gonzalez, Commissioner. He promises to look into the problem ... (famous last words). I don't expect much, probably won't get much, but at least I have their attention ... somewhat.

I also got another complaint into the 'look into' pool. While my PASS was supposedly working -- one of the problems was that the DSS was involved to provide support (heh, heh -- like that would ever happen). Anyway to get MEDICAID, I had to accept household 'help'. And I was given a list of several agencies that were acceptable to DSS/MEDICAID.

I was given no background information about any of the agencies on the list, so I made random choice. The agency sent an RN to do the intake. She offered me, among the items she 'put to me,' skilled nursing. I refused. I'm disabled, not critically ill. I needed but was not dependent upon some form of household cleaning help. The agency sent a 'person' to help me by doing household chores, but too frequently NOTHING was done. And then I got a call from my doctor’s nurse, asking me if I wanted the agency that provided me with household help to also provide skilled nursing. I told her, NO, and that I had already told the RN from the agency, no, as well.

This RN/agency intake woman had gone behind my back to get medical approval for something I had already turned down. Next I called my 'DSS Case worker' and told her what was going on, and she assured me she was 'making notes' about the incident. Pretty soon I had a statement from SSA/MEDICARE's financial department, saying they had a bill from that agency for SKILLED NURSING. I immediately wrote back that all the woman from that agency did was the INTAKE interview. SO THEY PAID IT!

Next, in June, the RN made another trip to my door -- yes, only as far as the door sill -- ostensibly to check on the household help person, who was here at the time. That was what I was told ...

Then comes another bill statement for SKILLED NURSING for that visit. I again wrote and explained the RN didn't even come into the house. So what skilled nursing were they referring to? Their response was that unless or until they got two complaints everything was fine by them. I felt really stupid because I was unable to figure out if they meant two complaints from two separate sources, or what! I'd given them two complaints. What else did they need -- an act of GOD? (No not of Congress, we all know what that's worth these days.)

Later at another intake interview from DSS, I asked the interviewer if there was any record of my calls regarding the above incidents, and, while I watched, the DSS case worker looked through my file and without blinking told me there was no mention of the incident. I told her, Anna, that that was okay, ‘cause I HAD a record. I had kept notes. Needless to say, I was denied MEDICAID following that interview.

Anyway, someone at SSA has finally taken notice of the MEDICAID/DSS and MEDICARE story above. I have no idea what turn this will take or what effect it will have on the overall problem. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

But from the peanut gallery, me, I find it strange they will take my entire SSA benefits to repay them, leaving me without any source of income, yet let these agencies get away with stealing millions of tax dollars. God only knows how many other's got zapped by that little Medicare game (through DSS).
