I have been diagnosed as being latex allergic. In fact, I'm so allergic, it qualifies as a disability under the ADA and may well shorten my life span.
I went to the hospital in June for surgery. I made everyone aware of my allergy ... at least I thought I had done so. No one told the operating room personnel or phlebotomy or many other people despite my latex band and despite the sticker on the outside of my chart and posted on my door. It meant nothing to them. It means my life to me.
I've written a letter to the CEO of the hospital. I have copied to the CEO of Columbia/HCA and all his underlings. I found their web site, and they asked if there were any comments. As I read it, I couldn't stop laughing. I told him that the web sites and local commercials bordered on, if not violated, truth in advertising laws. Then I covered their ADA and Medicare violations. My how quickly they responded.
I'm not finished with them yet, but when I am, every CEO of that hospital will forever
know my name. It's been a blast!
